I see there's a new book out titled NFL, Year One.
It's about the 1970 season. Typical mindset. The NFL was only 50 years old by then.

I'm pretty sure the author realizes that. I'm also pretty sure that the title less reflects his mindset than it does the simple fact that the merger divided the league's history in two and created the modern NFL that most current fans recognize. The book has been out for two years, BTW.

Okay ... I just received a notice from Amazon about it, so I assumed it was new.

My next book will be "USA, Year One."
It will be a chronicle of the year 1960. Can anyone guess why?

Birth of the AFL, surely.

Nope. That was important to the history of pro football, but unimportant to the history of the USA.

Perhaps in Sports the AFL would get a tinkle but, as the title refers to the "USA," it might be the dawning of the so-called New Age
and the Age of Aquarius, if you will, and certainly the beginning of the end of the traditional system of values that had been formed
over the previous 180-odd years.
It is also the period where we stepped forth as the policeman of the world but continued to handcuff those keepers of the Peace
as we did with Patton and MacArthur.
('Course the OP might be lauding the election of his Harvard brother but few ever mention that JFK began college in New Jersey
at a different Ivy League institution.)

America''s team began that year.

It was the first full year that there were 50 states in the union. Surely that qualifies as Year One in American history.
