best rookie season by a receiver
best rookie season by a receiver
I was hoping to do this as a poll but I do not see an option anywhere for making polls.
Poll question would have been, Which wide receiver had the best rookie season?
A) Billy Howton in 1952
B) John Jefferson in 1978
C) Randy Moss in 1998
D) Odell Beckham Jr. in 2014
E) some other guy

Would have voted for Moss.
Others that could be on the list are Boldin and Hayes.

Wow. Tough question. I would say a 4 way tie... toss Jefferson out of that group and add Bill Groman.

While he wouldn't make the list because he "only" had 52 receptions for 920 yards and nine TD's, Paul Warfield in 1964 should at least make any pre-merger list. That's also because he was on a tem with Jim Brown in the backfield, and Gary Collins who had three TD's in the NFL title win over Baltimore.

Sammy White and Cris Collinsworth both played in the Super Bowl as rookies, with White's effort unfortunately remembered for the monster hit he took from Jack Tatum--even though he held on to the ball.

Both Hayes, Jefferson and Moss were first in TD receptions. Hayes and JJ were 4th in yardage while Moss was 3rd. Howton was first in receiving yards and 2 in TD receptions. Hayes also did a good job returning punts and kicks. Howton might get a slight edge over Hayes.Reaser wrote:Would have voted for Moss.
