No it's not. It's mainly American Indian enrolled members and tribal descendants. It isn't about team mascots, it's about the relationship to the indigenous. But look at the funding? Why? What does that have to do with anything except they get to publicize their beef better? Let me guess, the indigenous in favor of it are not too bright and are easily manipulated???? You really have a low opinion of them.Citizen wrote: ↑Tue Oct 21, 2025 9:05 am It's worthwhile to learn more about the "Native American Guardians Association," especially when people are trying to use its words to prop up an argument in favor of the name Redskins.
It's a lobbying group founded less than a decade ago for the express purpose of "protecting" team mascot icons: that is, protecting the interests of the deep-pocketed entities that own those mascots.
Per court records, it took money (via a shell organization) from Dan Snyder himself when the debate over his team's name was heating up. A number of its board members have no native blood. A recent Change.org petition to change the Commanders name back to what it was, alleged to have been started by a sole fan, was found to be started and funded by this group. Its primary reason for being seems to be to challenge any effort at any level to do away with native-themed mascots, and to coach "witnesses" on what to say during hearings and meetings on such matters.
A little research (and isn't that why we're here?) shows that native heritage is a bit far down on the list of this organization's priorities. Follow the money, friends.
So ignore all the polls and discussions from the indigenous themselves that supported the name and only cite those you agree with? That research doesn't count, right?
Lets take away Fighting Irish. It shows the Irish in a bad light. Cowboys is derogatory when will that be banned? Because someone is offended doesn't mean they understand the use of that terminology.
Maybe I missed the derogatory ways the name Redskin was being used by those teams?
So that research doesn't count, right? Believe the ones who think their skin is red when it isn't? It's brown btw. And like I mentioned before, stop with the condescending replies because someone disagrees with you.
