I can somewhat understand two former HOF players being selected as voters, but specifically, why two former Chiefs?

No idea why those two players were chosen, they are among recent PFHOFers would have made recent appearances at Hall sponsored events, perhaps because they are more known to the Hall and aware of the election process? Off the top of my head I can't think of any recent KC player who is a strong PFHOF candidate that would benefit, especially anyone whose career overlapped with these two..so really do see any advantage gained

Will Allen would push his Vikings teammates (Adrian Peterson, Kevin Williams, Matt Birk)?

Large subcommittees for the two remaining groups. Didn't count, but looks about half and half.

I wonder about Priest Holmes and Brian Waters.

Yup. Fourteen per committee. Getting rid of the two non-selection committee voters from the last two years. It will be interesting to see how this changes things after Kraft goes through again (we all know that will happen). The fact that you are going to be able to combine entire careers (player/coach/contributor) into one case would be interesting. That would make Bucko Kilroy a slam dunk, if the voters knew who the hell he was. I suspect Doug Williams will be the first non-Kraft selection. Bucko is the stronger candidate, but that is not going to matter.

Like BillB, I can see a path for Kraft as the contributor finalist to eventual election competing for 4-6 elections slots against players, doubt very much any seniors have that chance and can't think of a single other contributor that voters would give more votes to than players. Its like the elections were for decades when coaches and contributors completed directly against modern players for election, very few were elected. I am afraid under these rules we will see same results, especially for contributors, where as I can see coaches BillB, Holmgren, MikeS, and perhaps even Coughlin having decent shots to be elected. And I understand and have no issue with the broader definition of contributor, just don't think its going to greatly impact their ability to complete against players, if contributors had their own direct path to election, (and perhaps one day in future again they will) I could see it helping several cases-just not now under this election system.

Cooney posted another very good and well pointed story regarding changes to Hall on his Substack page today

And for me at this point it would take the NFL powers to remove Hall board members and/or Porter to reset how the Hall operates in terms of elections-but would take another problem to emerge (fraud, Hall, budget crisis, personal issues etc..) and not just due to election results, which are now intended to draw maximum interest, attendance and revenues to the Hall via electing the most recent, popular and well known players/coaches/owner

I suspect at the end of the day Porter is thinking more like a CFO and less as a history museum President…as the Hall apparently now increasingly looks at the annual enshrinement as a cash cow that needs to be maximized and getting a process and voters who will simply elect the most popular, well liked, well known and recent players (and one coach) get them the largest amount of interest and attendance at paid events that week in August.

Never forget that the Hall apparently did not have enough cash raised (or saved) to complete last phase of its expansion-improvements to the display spaces in the Hall-and NFL stepped in with a $30m check. That would seem to suggest a major shift by Porter and the Hall staff and board to increase revenues, show the league that their $30m investment can led to profit or more financial stability of the Hal. And these new election rules appears to do that so far more fans are coming to cheer on players they like and know, than the very few who are interested in supporting a player from pre 1990s.
