The HOF shouldnt keep a player off the nomination list unless its willing to change its bylaws. Sharper at one time was a great player but regressed as he became more undisiplined. Like CB Marcus Peters, he could make big plays but also be a headache for different teams, feast or famine. Sharper has a case, but the voters dont want the negative publicity of electing him. Buddy Parker needs to be re-evaluated as well.

I personally think Sharper is a HOFer, but he's a serial rapist so he can F off. I know that violates the Hall's bylaws, and that's an easy one for me to say here, since I'm not a voter. I don't know what I would do if I saw his name there, because I do think he's an easy HOFer.Brian wolf wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 12:55 pm The HOF shouldnt keep a player off the nomination list unless its willing to change its bylaws. W/R/T the Hall removing his name, I'll note that the other test case they also removed was Damon Allen, who my friend sent as a test of the "Pro Football" in "Pro Football Hall of Fame."

I agree Jack ... Allen couldnt even get traction for the HOVG when I nominated him. People may not agree but if Flutie were to get elected, it could represent all the worthy CFL players, who never had their chance for this HOF but it would still only benefit Flutie, who wouldnt get elected anyway. I still feel Moon's CFL career helped him because based on his NFL career, its borderline.

As a Packers fan having watched Sharper play for most of his career I am more than okay with him never sniffing the Hall of Fame, regardless of his terrible crimes. He was *awful* his first couple of years starting. Ed McCaffrey dragging Sharper for 20-30 yards in 1999 is a play I'll never forget, and he was a big part of giving up The Catch II and 4th & 26. After a few years he became a deserving Pro Bowler for his flashy interceptions, but I think his Hall of Fame credentials are vastly overrated (not that it matters anymore).readjack wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 12:27 pmOne note on Sharper: he was included on the nominees list his first two years of eligibility, which coincided with his sentencing. After backlash, the Hall stopped including him on the nominees list. As I'm sure most here know, anyone can nominate players for the Hall by emailing a list of names. A friend of mine tested a few cases, including Sharper, by nominating him, and his name was removed for the nominee list. So the Hall is keeping Sharper off.JWL wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:49 am Look at Darren Sharper. He is probably a borderline HOF candidate but once he was found guilty of despicable acts, his name totally dropped off the HOF radar. Nobody is being removed from the HOF but people found guilty of heinous actions can be kept out.
My comment is not for or against Tyrer. I am merely pointing out if the voters don't want him in, they can keep him out. Tyrer is not a no doubt awesome player. One can at least argue against him. Where this sort of thing would be interesting is if some amazing 1st ballot type guy did something horrible shortly after retirement. Not something any of us care to find out, of course.

The CFL does have its own Hall of Fame. If Flutie were to be considered, much less Allen, someone like Herschel Walker should probably get in first. Do we want to open that entire can of worms?Brian wolf wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 2:39 pm I agree Jack ... Allen couldnt even get traction for the HOVG when I nominated him. HOVG, for Flutie, I wouldn't have a problem with, but no one seems to be pushing him.

Flutie has not yet been out of pro football for 25+ years. He was last active in 2005 with New England, as a result he cannot be nominated.JameisBrownston wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 6:55 pmThe CFL does have its own Hall of Fame. Putting Flutie in would really make it the *Pro Football* Hall of Fame, and that is a massive door that they're not going to open. I see it akin to the international committee in the Hoops Hall, electing Kukoc, Oscar, Sabonis, etc., even though FIBA has its own Hall.JameisBrownston wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 6:55 pmThe CFL does have its own Hall of Fame. CFL is a much lower level of competition when compared to the NFL. If there comes a time when the CFL is on equal footing or surpasses the NFL in terms of competition, then I would be all for putting in guys like Jim Young and Kent Austin. But if the CFL is inferior to the NFL, then I'm not really following the "Pro Football" logic.readjack wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 4:35 pm Putting Flutie in would really make it the *Pro Football* Hall of Fame, and that is a massive door that they're not going to open.
