How about the pass that Sammy Baugh threw from his end zone in the 1945 championship? Hit the goalpost and awarded the Rams a safety, turning out to be the margin of victory for Cleveland.

I know I have said it before but I still think it was the Lamonica lateral-pass in the 1968 AFL Championship game.
With Garo Yepremian for Miami, he just prevented a Dolphin shutout win. That SB game was never in doubt but with first and goal at the Jets 12 yard line, the Raiders had their chance to change professional football history, HAD they scored the TD, although they still would have given the Jets a chance to win it in the final minutes, with the wind. Lot of ifs, sure but they had their chances. Lamonica also threw another terrible pass earlier, when he tried to hit the double-covered Dixon at the goalline. The Jets broke up the pass but Daryle missed Warren Wells who was wide open in the endzone.

Even had the Raiders not had the lateral and got into the endzone for the win, I dont believe they would have beaten the Colts in the SB. Unlike the Jets, the Raiders would had more problems with the Colts red dogging ...

I remember a column by long-time Bay Area writer Glenn Dickey in Pro Football Weekly. He wrote of Daryle Lamonica, "He could hit a receiver 50 yards away down the field right in stride but miss a flare pass a few yards away."

If QBs could be judged by short periods of excellence, Lamonica would be in the HOF. He looked good as a backup before excelling as a starter for six seasons with a team who regularly won. His ability to throw and win is unquestioned but being snakebit in the postseason--and injured--was his undoing.

The comparison is ludicrous. Dempsey is known for a single play; Lamonica had at least three MVP-caliber seasons in a row. There's no resemblance whatsoever. It's like comparing Pat Seerey, who hit four home runs in one game, to Harmon Killebrew, who never did, but hit 570-some in his career. Or Adrian Burk, who threw seven TD passes in a game, to any of the great quarterbacks who didn't.

That was a flippant statement on my part. I should not have worded it that way. Glenn Dickey's comment reminded me of Tom Dempsey, who could easily kick a 50 yard field goal but miss from 20. I was only comparing him to the Mad Bomber in that respect. Lamonica was an AFL/NFL All-Star for several seasons and one my of my favorites from that era. Dempsey certainly did not attain the same level of career success.
