To those who feel that the Browns were professional football's best in '49, my guess is that none of you will go far enough to consider that year's AAFC Championship Game in this thread (placing San Fran ahead of Philly, Rams...Bears). The Forty Niners were close enough to Cleveland that year, splitting with them as well as putting up 56 (to 28) in their win vs them. My guess would be not; or at least not putting them above Philly.

Speaking of '49, and considering the recent thread about tie games, if Reaser would have been around and had his way that year, the 9-3-0 Bears (despite getting swept by 8-2-2 Rams) would have played the Eagles for the NFLC instead due to nine wins over eight, a tie-breaker method that I do agree with and think should be proposed. Of course a team would have to tie more than just once (something that has yet to happen since '74) along with being in the playoff race in order for such a thing to be applied in the first place.

1979 (AFCCG): So the refs call the Mike Renfro pass at the back of the end zone complete (as they should have) and momentum decisively changes in favor of the Oilers. A fired up Oilers defense proceeds to shut down the Steelers offense and leads the way to a 20-17 victory. What exactly do the Rams have in 1979 to challenge the Oilers? Certainly not Vince Ferragamo. I see Earl Campbell and the Oilers wearing the Rams down for a 24-13 victory.
Here is a Steeler fan that doesn't like how the media framed that play. He thinks that the Oilers wouldn't have won even if it was a TD:

Also, I think the Rams would have defeated the Oilers that year (if Houston somehow miraculously beats Pittsburgh). The Rams had deep threats at WR, a good RB in Wendell Tyler, an underrated Ferragamo, and home field (the game was in Pasadena).
