The Jets needed Buffalo to lose that game to have a chance to stay in the postseason, because a Buffalo win and Jets loss against St. Louis would have put both teams at 10-6 and given the Bills the tiebreaker in common games (8--3 for Buffalo vs 7-4 for Jets), putting the Bills in the playoffs. The only way the Jets could get past the Bills in the Wild Card race was on better won-lost record, and the Jets went into Week 17 with a one-game lead (10-5 vs 9-6 for the Bills). New York needed either a Jets win or Buffalo loss to get into the playoffs.CSKreager wrote:Depends- if Buffalo wins that last game and they/Jets are both 10-6, who wins the tiebreaker?7DnBrnc53 wrote:Wasn't Buffalo supposed to go to Indy if they won? Because I remember rooting for the Bills to win because I wanted Denver to go to SD, not Indy.Had Buffalo won and gotten in, I think they could have beaten San Diego- after all, it's if Marty and the playoffs, you always have a shot!

Seattle at Pittsburgh 1st-round would have made for quite a dogfight! Still kills me to this day Steelers playing real stout (especially at D) down the stretch only to allow Cody Carlson to knock 'em out!7DnBrnc53 wrote:The 1990 Seahawks started 4-6, then went 5-1 down the stretch to finish 9-7.
The Wikipedia article (I sometimes use them because they post the conference records, and PFR doesn't do that) said that they were eliminated in Week 15, but that just isn't true:

If the Oilers would have lost to the Steelers in the Week 17 SNF game, Houston would have been 8-8 (and out of the playoffs) and Seattle would have made it over 9-7 Cincy because they beat them head to head that year.
