I was gonna ask that question here myself. So I might as well do that now.

Does anybody know why CBS got one game this weekend? It used to be in recent years that ESPN or ABC or NBC would get the Saturday Wild Card games and then it would be CBS and FOX the rest of the way until the Super Bowl (and then that could still be CBS or FOX).

Who knows. The NFL is so screwed up these days, anything is possible.

The new TV deal. Which added ESPN (and after the first year simulcast on ABC) for a wild card game and changed to where NBC gets a wild card game and a divisional game.

So 2014 season NBC had a divisional round game, CBS had one, FOX had both NFC.
Last season the opposite, CBS had both AFC games and FOX & NBC split the NFC games (note: WC round CBS had the Sat. night game and NBC had Sunday morning game)

Rotational so back to CBS only having one this weekend for this season.

Within that there doesn't appear to be a set NBC time slot in the divisional round. 2014 they had the earliy Saturday game, last season had the Saturday night game and this season were set to have the early Sunday game until the move to Sunday night.

After the Raiders-Broncos controversy, Al Davis once again endeared himself to the NFL office by claiming that they were lying and comparing such untruths to Vietnam.

I'm watching NFL Network pregame and there is a crawl on the bottom of the screen that the NFL is considering Sunday Night prime time playoff games and is going to use tonight's KC Pittsburgh game as a test of sorts. That means we have seen the last of the 1PM playoff game, and even for the Championship games, I think we will see them moved from 3 and 630 EST as they have been for about 15 years to 430 and 8PM next season.

I read this morning that Sunday night is expected to bring an additional 10 million viewers. So this complete 'coincidence' of bad weather moving the start time back to Sunday night when it's colder certainly looks like it will work out for the NFL/NBC.

Seems fairly obvious that the ratings will dictate that Sunday night will be scheduled in the wild card and divisional rounds starting next season.

Wouldn't that be an additional 9,999,990 viewers (10 MM minus the ten folks in this forum with early beddy-by)?

Something interesting about this game is that the referee (Carl Cheffers #51) and up to other 4 officials who will work the game are the leading candidates to officiate in the Súper Bowl. If is a controversial-free game you could bet that Cheffers will be in the Super Bowl.

Here's what it looked like a few hours ago. That's a quarter inch of ice. They did the right thing.
