Cedric Benson, former running back with the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers died on August 17, at the age of 36 (motorcycle accident):

Jack Whitaker, longtime broadcaster who called Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants games, as well as Super Bowl 1 (1967) died on August 18, at the age of 95:

In his first NFL game no less. It came against an Eagles team that had just gotten humiliated by the Browns in the 1950 opener:

It would be neglectful if we didn’t also mention that Hardy threw 6 TD passes the following week.

A rare BD error. Hardy came into the league in 1946 so the 8-pick game was not his first outing.
