Richard may not agree, but Greg Landry had alot of athletic talent in the 70s but couldnt really succeed. He wasnt arrogant or selfish like George but just couldnt meet expectations. Had some good seasons but couldnt reach his potential. That may have been more a team or management problem. I thought he would do better in the USFL but couldnt win the championship.

For a more recent example, how about Zach Wilson to a degree?
One of the things that I recall people saying stood out about him was an incredible throw in a workout that had to have gone at least 70-80 yards, so he must have some arm talent, but it also sounds like he’s not the guy you’d want to be leading your team with his mentality (didn’t he throw his team under the bus in New York?)

JaMarcus Russell fits the arm talent and lack of leadership qualities (or work ethic) but not so much the getting other chances, other than some workouts with a few teams. So didn't really get the blind sign him and start him anyway, for obvious reasons.
Ryan Leaf fits the arm talent and lack of leadership qualities, and sort of fits the getting other chances and was headed on that trajectory until he retired. Though can't really be the Jeff George of the 90s(/early 00s) if your career overlapped with Jeff George.

Who did?
I know. I was just bringing that up because George is the subject of this thread.

Disagree with Culpepper. He was an awesome QB until he got hurt in 2005. Went downhill after that. Wasn't mobile and couldn't run anymore. His average rushing attempts per game was cut in half and after the 2005 his average per carry went way down from the 5's to the 2's. He was getting sacked alot more too.
He did have a big problem with fumbles though. Even when he was healthy.

Landry took an inordinate number of sacks for a mobile QB.
George Shaw might be one from the 1950s. Doesn't really fit the profile but an interesting guy. #1 pick for the Colts, good rookie year, then gets hurt and Johnny Unitas. Never had a regular job again. I think his knee injury cost him mobility and he seemed to lose confidence after Unitas as well.
