The concussions that brought down Staubach started against the Falcons in the 1978/79 divisional playoff. Roger recovered and played well against the Rams and Steelers but in Three Rivers the next season in 1979, Staubach took a hit from LC Greenwood that was really bad. Staubach remained the ultimate competitor however and played well afterward, but once the Rams caused another concussion in the playoffs, he decided to retire. I wish he had tried to play one more season ...

Because of how late in life he began playing in the NFL, it's easy to forget that Staubach was 37 during the 1979 season. That was a much bigger deal then than it is now. The spirit was willing, but etc.
