"Hot Commodity" coordinat to HC failures

Yeah, Wilson was definitely overhyped coming out of college. People, like myself, didnt think an Ohio State QB like Stroud would be as successful either ... hopefully Stroud will stay healthy and continue to get even better. Wilson's starting days are just about over with. We will see who backs up Rodgers next year. Will Hackett be back? Will the Jets bring back Dalvin Cook?

The thing that's driven me nuts recently is the hiring of the OC who suddenly is a hot commodity after inheriting a future HOF QB.

WOuld also be interesting to look at DCs the same way. Staley--who this threat started wit was on the leading edge of a scheme that was gaining popularity plus had Donald and Ramsey and the defense waa great. For one year. On the basis of that, he got HC job.

In 2021 teams had a year of film, and other teams began to run Fangio's scheme and had solutions. Maybe Staley was not a boy wonder but just your average smart coach in the right place and right time with rich scheme and when things leveled out he was not a genius. That, and the added pressures of
trying to be a sharp with the 4th down things and other HC things.

What about Bill Arnsparger? He must have been a hot commodity after the Dolphins won back to back SB's in 1972 and 73, but he didn't do anything with the Giants.

That's the point. It's about hot commodities that didn't translate to HC. He's a fine example.

Eric Bieniemy sure wasnt a "hot commodity". He may have to find another job if Rivera gets fired in Washington. The new owners may keep both because the Redskins have had an exciting offense under Howell but the season has came off the rails.

At least with Arnsparger, he was a true hot commodity with a great track record, not a one or two year fart like Staley or Gannon in Arizona, who has to decide if he will make a play for Williams in the draft or stay with Murray. Steichen in Indy is a COTY candidate with a chance at the playoffs.

If you were Gannon, John, would you go with Murray or take a chance on drafting Williams, who had a disappointing team season with USC--though it wasnt his fault--?

Exactly. One big mistake was telling Elway to get rid of OC Rich Scangarello after one year. Near the end of 2019, Drew Lock was playing well. The next year, with Pat Shurmur, Lock was way worse. Now, I don't know if Drew would have been the guy, anyway, but that didn't help at all.
