I still believe that the team had a difficult time handling Jerome Browns' death and some players like White, Cunningham, Joyner, Allen and others, needed a change of scenery. In defense of Ricky Watters, the Eagles got slighty better at the offensive line but never enough to take full advantage of his skills. Charlie Garner really was a great change of pace however, and with Gruden getting better as a coach, he would bring in Garner to help the Raiders later ...
An underrated player in those years was LB William Thomas, who had an excellent career despite only making two PBs. He was in on alot of tackles and had 27 interceptions with two returned for TDs, and another one in the playoffs as well.
And having someone like Kotite at the helm...not exactly the guy you'd want helping a grieving team
I remember being surprised at how quickly GB got rid of Rhodes for Mike Sherman. One 8-8 season and that's it. Though he definitely did underachieve.
Mike Sherman comes in, goes 44-20 in four seasons, they win some playoff games but nothing more...then one 4-12 campaign and they fire him. And he's never gotten an NFL head coaching job since which I have sort of found odd. Like Jim Caldwell today (who by now has age working against him)

Good call on Sherman ... I really thought he was too nice and vanilla, though. Couldnt seem to light a fire under the team like Holmgren and McCarthy. The Packers could move the ball though. During the Sherman years they could utilize the screen pass better than anyone since and could run the ball with Ahman Green, who had a lot of momentum before getting hurt in 2005. Could have achieved even more but didnt do anything with the Texans ... HOVG?

I think Ray Roads won on enthusiasm and attitude but that only goes for a while. The payoff game vs the Lions was great.

He had the same problem as Campbell, Ryan and Kotite ... not enough investment and developing the offensive line ... Its weird but Bosa for SF reminds me of Mike Mamula, a physical stud but undersized. We will see if Nick Bosa continues to stay a great pass rusher or gets injury prone like his brother. He is ready to cash in on a huge contract ...

Like I said, the team after the 1996 win over Dallas really fell. I do think Rhodes did a great coaching job when you consider the players on the team.. He did it through attitude, hard work, and enthusiasm; but that only holds for so long. Eventually pure talent takes over.
