Thank you...I'm familiar with various versions of the Rockne story but that is not what I'm thinking of. It's very possible that I may have just hallucinated the double knockout story involving Thorpe. I didn't want to contaminate the thinking of others by supplying additional details but I was thinking it was against either the Akron Pros or the Columbus Pandhandles in 1920, and it may have involved one of the six Nesser brothers. I've tried various search engine tricks to re-acquire the story but so far can't find it.
