Slight homer pick but the Jets could be in this list. They were about as hard luck an 8-8 team as I have ever seen. Very easily could've been 10-6 if they weren't so unlucky.

A rejuvenated Boomer Esiason stabilized the QB position. They had a great offensive line and gave up very few sacks.

Beat the Giants. Beat Miami twice soundly.

Led 17-0 in LA against the Raiders. Raiders tie it at 17. Jets go ahead 20-17. I remember there were some late game clock shenanigans at the Coliseum with the Raiders running a play to get deep into Jets territory and the clock not starting at all.

Bills game late in the season. Thurman Thomas fumbles a good 1/2 yard before the goal line and through the endzone for a touchback. Referees award a touchdown instead. Cary Blanchard with 3 brutal missed field goals. That was an absolute win ripped away from us.

That awful Eric Allen miracle interception return. Another game where we should've easily won. Esiason who was pretty mistake free that season threw a very risky, stupid pass. But 99 times out of 100 that is not coming back 95 yards.

Week 1 we trailed Denver 26-6. Jets get to 26-20 and Blair Thomas is stopped on the 1 yard line as time expired to end the game.

Still no excuse for the 24-0 no show in the Ryan/Gilbride fight night game. Though we were without Rob Moore at the time which was killer. Still you can't let Cody Carlson tear you up like that

Curious what his excuse was? Did he not know the rule? (if he didn't why would he even be on special teams?) was it just a slip?

A lot of players are not familiar with basic rules. I remember a few years back when the Eagles-Bengals game that ended as a tie and after OT ended and the players were running off the field to the locker rooms, Donovan McNabb was dumbfounded to learn that the game was over and it was a tie and there was no winner. He thought it was like sudden death and would go on until somebody scored.

Jet FS Ronnie Lott also dropped a sure INT TD in that game as well.

That was what I was talking about in my post when I said that the Bills should have been 7-9. That was one of several bogus wins that they had in 1992 and 93.

Really? I didn't know it came down to the last play (that game wasn't on in our market). Learn something new every day. I am also surprised that the 93 Denver defense made a stop at the end of a game to preserve victory. Their defenses were bad under DC Charlie Waters.

In recent years, Jimmy Johnson has taken the blame for it. Lett was not normally on the field goal defense. The Cowboys inserted him hoping he could get a block with his size and the lousy footing. The regulars on the special teams DID know the rule; the coaches has prepared them for the situation. After the blocked Miami field goal, one or more players yelled out "Peter," which meant don't touch the ball...stay away from it. Left had not practiced with the special teams and did not know the rule.
That's one reason why Johnson, who had been miserable and on edge throughout the 1993 season, consoled a sobbing Lett in the locker room after the game. Some observers wondered if Lett was going to be cut right there.

I've also heard that they had other players stay over at his house that night to make sure he would be ok. Rather or not it was the coaches that reccomended they did that or the players did that on their own I'm not really sure but I did hear that they did do that.

Of course maybe that wasn't the best idea given the off the field issues the Cowboys were having at that time.
