Longest stretch between two teams playing each other
Re: Longest stretch between two teams playing each other
The Bills and Chargers didn't play at all between 1985-1998. They almost met in the 1992 AFC Championship Game- Chargers were lined up to host Wild-Card Buffalo at the Murph, but they ended up singing a sour tune in the Miami rain.

Which makes for an odd bit of trivia - Which AFC team did Jim Kelly never face (except for the Bills, of course) in the regular or post-season?CSKreager wrote:The Bills and Chargers didn't play at all between 1985-1998. I wonder how many other Hall of Famers since the merger, if any, didn't play against a team from their own conference (other than teams they played on) even one time during their entire careers. Or for that matter, went thru their entire careers without playing a team from the opposing conference. These days, when you play the opposing conference teams every four years, it would be nearly impossible not to face another team at least once unless you happened to be injured every time you face them, but with the scheduling quirks there used to be in the 70's thru 2001, I'm sure there were Hall of Famers who never faced teams from the other conference in the regular season or post-season.

I just watched the Bills 1985 yearbook and they played San Diego twice. And wore white jerseys in both games.CSKreager wrote:The Bills and Chargers didn't play at all between 1985-1998. 10/16/49 Bills@49ers ---- 9/24/72 49ers@Bills. That's 23 years. I win! I win!...What do I win?
