Just like Pete Carroll pre-Seahawks, we never got (and likely will never get) a chance to see how he would have done as a regular NFL HC. I'm a believer that he - a Hoody understudy - would have done quite well had he stayed in South Beach.

I guess we'll never know.

Like Hoodie, he might have needed to go elsewhere to flush out all the mistakes he made in his first go-around. Jimmy Haslam was supposedly pushing for him to return to Cleveland to coach the Browns, but I'm sure the stability he had in Tuscaloosa was more comforting than taking over what's been Chaos Central since 1999.

I assume there's some sarcasm here, considering he was 11-24 with the Chiefs from 1975-77, and then was the losing coach to Cal in 1982 after they completed "The Play," getting bounced one year later with a 16-28 mark.
