This one has some issues with the airbrushing. The two Rams helmets on the left are the problem. Topps didn't bother with the Ram on the right.
Re: Your nominations for worst football card ever
For a long time, I thought somebody who owned this card before me had defaced it by coloring the Chargers pants lightning bolt. Years later an internet search revealed Topps did it.
Re: Your nominations for worst football card ever
In 2006 Donruss did a Classics series which included a Ken Kavanaugh card (271). Problem is, the photo is acutally Howie Livingston #10 of the NY Giants intercepting a pass intended for Kavanaugh (who is just about visible in the upper part of the photo) during the 1946 NFL Championship Game.
The back of the card is just as bad, as it includes his 1950 stats, despite the photo being from 1946 and indicates his DRAFTED status as FREE AGENT, despite the fact that he was the Bears 3rd round selection (22nd overall) in 1940.
Classic indeed!

Topps had some issues with MacArthur Lane cards.
This one I actually like. His left ear was green that season. Also, the back has a tremendous cartoon on it.

lazy airbrusher . .. not even a uniform number?
Re: Your nominations for worst football card ever
While not an airbrush issue several players in the 1972 set had pictures taken in College All-Star uniforms. Brockington, Plunkett, Julius Adams and one or two others.

I bought that Guy card this weekend. I also purchased an L.C. Greenwood pro action card with a shot from a game in Miami where Joe Greene is the player to whom your eyes first gaze upon.Evan wrote:Then there were cards that begged the question ... who is this card supposed to be of? It's not really clear, as the subject is highly obscured.
I also bought Vic Washington (action shot vs L.A.) and Les Josephson cards. In the former, the Rams helmets were airbrushed white. In the latter, Topps went with blue.
Re: Your nominations for worst football card ever
Action shot? Sure, he is a tight end, so how about one where he is catching the ball or making a block? Nah ...
