Excluding kicking and Punting I'd probably amplify Coach Troups' comments. Players starting both ways and playing every down in the same game really died out shortly after the two platoon era, some of it in 51, and 52, but very little thereafter. In the mid 50's there was a lot of shuffling due to injury or need - think Stauntner to the O Line, and some occational stuff for a series or drive. The reason Concrete Charley was concrete Charley in 1960 was because even that was u usual by that point. But John M is spot on too, Charlie really switched from LB to C mid season, rather than playing both throughout. He played very little LB in the second half of the season.

I always thought it was cool however, that if you tot up the play by play tackle charts, the Sixty Minute Man made 60 tackles in 1960!

Not really an iron man, but I remember a couple of times in the early '50s when the Packers had to use linebacker Bob Forte at quarterback because both QBs on their roster were injured.

Didn't Tom Landry run a couple of series for the Giants in a similar situation? It was about the time you reference.
I also want to remeber Gifford doing it once and Joe Morrison once also but both were later?

When a player made a good play, he didn't jump up and down.
Those kinds of plays were expected."
