Would the four-time Super Bowl-losing Buffalo Bills of the '90s have defeated a Super Bowl champion of another year? If yes, which Super Bowl-winning teams do you think they would have defeated?

I won't try putting on my thinking-cap over the three other AFC champs, but the '90 squad sure can beat some SB champs, especially ones this century. No, not the '13 Hawks nor '24 Eagles, but a-plenty they can beat. '70 Colts, '80 Raiders, '87 Redskins...they oughta best them as well ('88 Forty Niners as well but, of course, ONLY within that 6-5 start, ONLY).

'90s? Maybe better than '99 Rams & '95 Cowboys, but maybe not. Better than '96 Packers? I just don't know.

Not really fair to compare post free agency squads to pre free agency. FA made it impossible to accumulate some of the depth of the teams before.

The 1987 Redskins? Sure. I think they could have played with a bunch of teams. But the 1990 Giants weren't as good as the 1986 team. The Bills basically did enough to lose, couldn't get off the field or stay on the field, the third downs were awful. Otherwise they did good things. So they could have been in games, I don't know that I would pick them to win many of those, and they lost the chance that they did get.

Like Jay said, the Bills had their chance to win against the Giants but butchered the clock at the end of that game. Kelly wasted too much time running around, despite his moxie, and once Thomas had the big run, they still had plenty of time to get closer for Norwood. Just couldnt get it done. After that, I never felt the Bills defense was good enough to beat the top NFC teams of the 1990s.

I would say the 1990 team is the best of those four, and I think they could’ve beaten at least a few champions.

The NFC of the 90s was top heavy- SF and insert NFCE flavor of the month- save for a brief Packer blip

The NFC was joke outside of like 4 teams yet everyone believed in conference superiority despite so many other teams basically turning out to be chokers

Off the top of my head I’m definitely taking those Bills over at minimum the 1970 Colts, and 2011 Giants. Maybe a couple others.

2009 Saints would’ve had a sub 20th ranked defense against that offense as well, so I don’t know about that matchup.

I could see that happening.

The 91 and 92 Bills had issues and were not at the peak of their powers so I'd stick with the 1990 and 1993 teams. I do think those teams match up well with the 94 49ers, 96 Packers, and definitely I'd put money on them to beat the 1999 Rams, 2005 Steelers, 2006 Colts, 2007 Giants, 2008 Steelers, 2009 Saints, 2010 Packers, 2011 Giants, 2012 Ravens. After that it gets shaky to compare them to anybody in head to head matchup.

As far as teams before them yeah I'd take them over 87 Skins, 84 San Fran, 83 Raiders, 82 Skins, 81 49ers, 80 Raiders. Hard to imagine them overcoming the 88-89 49ers but would have been interesting.
