Iron Mike - The Nickname

[SeahawkFever]

Two things:

Firstly, RIP to Iron Mike Ditka, one of the best tight ends there ever was, and one of the players I think of most when the Chicago Bears come to mind.

And secondly, I notice that he was nicknamed “Iron Mike” and I recall coming across that nickname a couple times on Pro-Football Reference.

How many players were nicknamed “Iron Mike”?

Mike Webster? Wasn't he Iron Mike too?

Looking back at some Ditka pics...the Bears were so behind the times in the 60s with their helmets. Those look like early-mid 50's helmets, the plastic single bar...the chin strap looks strange
