Lane Johnson retires and usual first-ballot posts are out there
Well, here we go again.
Lane Johnson retires and the first-ballot talk starts before the ink is dry — Doug Farrar, Chris Long, and the usual chorus treating him like a lock. Likely a HOF case. It is not a first-ballot one.
Suspended 14 games for PEDs, and in 2019 he said he did not think he deserved the Hall because of them. Pass-protection streaks and the eye test are real and I liked what I saw, but it's typical, his fans think 100% first ballot and if you bring up negatives, you might get crushed on social media.

Even if he didn’t use PED’s, I still don’t know if I’d say first ballot Hall of Fame for Lane Johnson.JohnTurney wrote: ↑Tue Oct 06, 2026 7:17 pm Well, here we go again.

Most notably because of the fact that he was an offensive lineman, and I’d take it most of those players don’t typically get in on the first ballot?

A great tackle and should make the HOF. If voters go by Pro Football Focus ratings, he could possibly be a first ballot, but we will see. I feel due to emphasis on offensive team performance, officials let linemen get away with everything and Johnson got away with alot of illegal movement and false starts.

Becomes our first class of 2032 contender (unless in future he decides to return to play), doubt very much he's viewed as 1st ballot but likely future PFHOFer as fellow OT peers and 2010s all decade team members JPeters (2029) and TSmith (2030) will get on ballot before he appears and TWilliams could also end up in 2032 ballot-or soon after, he will fall down the OT queue.
And he could be first of perhaps 6 or future PFHOFer in that class of 2032 including 4 or more strong 1st ballot contenders-since the early years of PFHOF elections, we have never seen more than 3 first time in any annual class-and that was when 6 modern players elected was possible..under current rules could be harder to get 3 first time candidates in...but yea the debate in fall of 2030 over that 2031 class could be historical
