The rouge is not going anywhere (nor, though some in other online places have intimated it is, the missed field goal return).

It's only being modified so you can't get a point by drilling a close field goal or punt out of the back or sides of the end zone. Toronto won a game last season on a last-play missed field goal that missed, but because of the short end zones at BMO Field, could not possibly have been returned.

They're closing that loophole.

Toronto also lost a game last October when Edmonton beat them on a walk off rouge in overtime via the punt.

Jake Julien’s 54-yard punt sailed over the end zone for a rare game-winning rouge:

Still, it doesn't mean that I want the Tradition to go awry.
So you're saying now that 8 of 9 teams make the playoffs that won't get you to start watching?

What an announcement that was today.

I'm going to cry, lol. And I'm not even a follower. "Designed to increase entertainment value and revenue." What's so...'entertaining' about a long 18-game season (ideal to determine the cream-of-the-crop) only for, practically, 'everyone' to still make the playoffs anyway? Basically, it's an 18-week time-trials simply to determine poll-positioning for the actual race/playoffs.

I said it before and I'll say it again, simply add a tenth team to make it a 5-team West, and a 5-team East. Yes, still 18 games. But make it either - preferably - like old NFL with just conference-winners making it thus playing for the Grey Cup. Tie-breakers, of course, are welcome! Even if more than two teams have to play-in to win their conference as what almost happened in '57. Or, at the very least, make it like the '69 AFL applying the 'criss-cross' format! I actually would really accept that as well!

And with college...strictly conference winners in a bracketed tourney or, I guess, a very few 'at-large' teams just to add enough ("to increase entertainment value and revenue") extra jelly to the PBJ sand.

British Columbia Lions and University of British Columbia Thunderbirds would be my favorite teams in such a double-event. Get me a framed Pamela Anderson Labatt's Blue poster and place both pennants above it on the wall!
