NFL team 'runs' similar to other sports team 'runs' of the same seasons

Post by 74_75_78_79_ »

Starting example - both the Steelers & Philadelphia Flyers ('Broad St Bullies') win their first ever respective league titles in '74 & '75. Then in '76 the Steelers lose the AFCCG. Bleier & Harris, of course, out for that game. Yes, Flyers took it one step further and advanced to the Stanley Cup again. Bernie Parent being out was the notable there. But just like the 13-1 Raiders may have beat the Steelers anyway, an outstanding, Classic Montreal Canadian team may have won that one as well.

Anyway, are there any other such similar NFL team/other sports team 'runs' that are similar during same exact seasons?

Thanks in-advance for anyone who can come up with another, or others!

You have one right now with the Chiefs and Florida Panthers.

Chiefs won back-to-back, lost in 3rd straight SB appearance, then missed the playoffs.

Panthers lost in SCF, won back-to-back, and are [likely] going to miss the playoffs.

So 3 straight championship appearances, won two in a row and lost one (different order) before both [likely] missing the playoffs in season 4 of the comparison.

Interesting! That's a good one.

I was born in Detroit smack dab in the middle of the Lions' only dynasty and the Red Wings' greatest run.

Wings---finished first in 8 of 9 seasons and won 4 Stanley Cups (1950, 1952, 1954, 1955)
Lions---4 division titles and 3 NFL titles between 1952 and 1957 (5-1 in postseason)

Heyday of Bobby Layne, Gordie Howe & the Production Line, the real production lines humming----man, that was Detroit at its postwar peak.

Of course Jets in Jan 1969, Mets in Oct 1969 and Knicks in May 1970?

Weird that the Baltimore Colts, Orioles and Bullets all fell victim in postseason during this 17-month run ...
