There is nothing to stop a member from doing their research outside of the nominations period, then turning in a nomination when the window opens. If you want to spend (let us say as an example) eight months searching for a candidate and then identifying backup material for the Committee, then do so. Make your own timetable and enjoy it. There is no cosmic rule limiting research time.

This is an excellent point. I have a running list of 20-30 potential candidates that I could nominate in any given year. A guy gets elected, I remove him from the list and I do "pre-research" on players who retired 25 years before the upcoming season to see if any are worthy. If so, I add them to my list.

Haha ... I am still hoping more older players --pre '80-- can get enshrined, much less more recent players. Christensen was a victory, but still alot more that deserve recognition. There is a difference between Very Good and Good which is subjective for everyone, but at least these players are being remembered.

Me and John Turney, or someone else, might disagree on how good Carroll Dale was for GB/LA --I feel his postseason play gives him a HOF case-- yet he still can be a viable choice for the HOVG when enough people take up his cause ... or not. Just an example of how tough it is to keep track of a large group of deserving players where anyone can assume a player will be nominated but wasnt, or forgotten for that particular ballot.

I think the case of Christensen (and Latone) is an excellent example of how research and posting on our forum can eventually lead to the induction of an individual in our Hall.
"Tanks and Spartans" led the way with early, informative posts and he and others pressed their cases and, after a few close calls, both were elected.

Intelligent, well-informed posts here can make a real difference. As can articles in the Coffin Corner.
I hope we see more during every nomination and election cycle.

I agree that we need more pre-NFL players in the Hall of Very Good.
And I'm still waiting for Peggy Parratt's name to be called.
He was soooo close last year.
Sigh...

Yep, and if TanksAndSpartans actually got his vote in last year, instead of forgetting again ... haha ... Parratt or Brock might have gotten voted in ... Dont forget this year!

Charlie Brock did make it into the HoVG this year with 37 votes.
Peggy Parratt (and Ray Donaldson) did not as they each had 36 votes.
It was a smaller turnout last year than in the several years previous and goes to show how one vote can make all the difference.

So make sure to vote (in all the elections) this year!!!
