Bob Griese VS Troy Aikman

Without using Troy's 3 Rings to Bob's 2 as a reason if you do pick Aikman, if you had to start your team from scratch and these two are the best two to choose from to build your team around, who would your pick be and why?

Not just Thanksgiving Day '77 and Opening Day '97 as respective examples (I've said it before and I'll say it again as I'm sure at least most of you agree with), I feel had both been in pass-happy offenses, they would have had quite the numbers if at the possible expense of Rings.

Different eras of course but a good question. Aikman had ideal size and arm strength but Griese was more mobile and known for great ball handling. They both ran their offenses very well, though Aikman never had a wide receiver as smooth as Paul Warfield.

Both extremely accurate, and dealt with adversity before great success. Troy was built for throwing more, while Bob liked more offensive balance. While Griese might adapt to different receivers better, Aikman only trusted three or four receivers throughout his career. Its easy to pick Troy on his overtall talent and intangibles but Griese actually might have been the more instinctive QB.

I’ve seen people say that they thought Griese was really good at calling plays. In the middle of Aikman’s prime, coach radio signals could be in helmets during the game I believe, not so for Griese’s era.

According to Don Shula, Griese liked to call his own plays but Marino preferred them from the coaches, which is funny because they always threw the ball. Marino was criticized for not utilizing the running game more but other than his great center, Stephenson and Webb at tackle, his linemen were more good rather than great, and used to pass blocking.

Even later, when Jimmy Johnson tried to get the linemen, especially Webb, to be more aggressive with their run blocking, the results werent there. Is this keeping Webb out of the HOF, despite great talent?

Those are exactly the points I was going to make.

Are we playing in the 1970's, 1990's or today?
Are the QBs calling their own plays?

All that said I'm pretty sure I'd still take Griese...
But I'll admit that that may be because I'm a 49ers fan who watched every game from 1985 on and could never, ever pick a Cowboy of that era for much of anything.
