Remove Joe Flacco from "best player to never make a Pro Bowl" contention. Congrats to him.
The only Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks to never make the Pro Bowl:
* Jim Plunkett
* Doug Williams
If you're wondering, these SB-winning QBs did make the Pro Bowl:
* Jeff Hostetler, 1994 Raiders (post-ring)
* Trent Dilfer, 1997 Buccaneers (pre-ring)
* Nick Foles, 2013 Eagles (pre-ring)
Sam Darnold and Drake Maye have made the PB each of the past two seasons.

Re: Flacco makes his first Pro Bowl!
it's a odd story, after the first alternate got hurt...they coul not get anyone to go, kept going down the list, no one woul accept, Kilmer, Gabrei, James Harris was hurt... so it finally came to Boryla. There was one report of Archie Manning plaing who was healthy after mising entire season. Game was in NO so he was local but suppose they thought better ... go with someone who actually played

O Lord, don't even think it, Matt.
Somewhere there's a Baltimore Ravens Flacco Fan who is scouring the internet to back up that claim... don't give him any ammunition!
Off the top of my head I can't think of any players who started for more than one team in their Pro Bowl season... there must be someone though, right?
I mean, if there was still an actual Pro Bowl game what helmet would Flacco wear??
One half Bengals and one half Browns?

Re: Flacco makes his first Pro Bowl!
I still believe Flacco has HOVG credentials
Championship and MVP of SB
Has started two other AFC Championship games in 2008/9 as a rookie and 2011/12 where his GW TD pass was dropped.
Counting postseason his starting record is 117 - 100 but had a good winning pct with the Ravens. Only 13 - 36 since.
Like Russell Wilson, he never recovered from a starting stint with the Broncos. Both QBs only went to the postseason once since leaving that team.

As always, it would depend (for me) on who else was on the ballot at the time but I wouldn't disagree with you, Brian.Brian wolf wrote: ↑Sat Feb 07, 2026 8:46 pm I still believe Flacco has HOVG credentials

I think just about any Super Bowl winning QB should probably be considered, especially if he also garnered an MVP in the game.
Where would you place Flacco amongst other SB winning QBs such as Theismann and Plunkett?

Re: Flacco makes his first Pro Bowl!
Theismann and Plunkett were late bloomers while Flacco peaked early in his first seven seasons. It seemed to me once Flacco got paid big money, his focus and dedication seemed to wane or maybe he had somewhat become complacent? Without anyone challenging his job, his play was less consistent and Jackson finally took the reigns.
Theismann basically just started nine seasons but really came on strong under Gibbs. They may not have gotten by the Niners or Bears by 1985, but Joe started showing his age even before the MNF injury. Plunkett, like Eli Manning, was clutch in championship games but while he struggled on bad teams his first seven years, Manning struggled his last seven years with the Giants, except when throwing to Beckham. Beckham, like Andre Rison, was on a HOF trajectory before joining the damn Browns.
