An NFL Films Program I would like to watch but can’t find

Post by SeahawkFever »

Out of curiosity is it ok if I ask about an NFL Films program that I’ve been wanting to see but can’t find?

Fine if it’s not, just want to make sure it wouldn’t break any rules for me to ask about something NFL Films related.

One obscure NFL Films production that I've long been curious about is a 1967 documentary entitled, "Portrait of a Coach." It's the story of Joe Kuharich who was head coach of three NFL teams.

Kuharich became the first coach to wear a wireless microphone for NFL Films in January 1967 during the Playoff Bowl. Portions of his wiring and the Playoff Bowl itself, were used at the end of NFL Films' 1967 special They Call It Pro Football, as well as Portrait of a Coach.

This film was never available in NFL Films' Special Order Catalog and probably hasn't been seen since it aired 58 years ago.

There was a thread about Kuharich back in 2014:

This is admittedly not the most obscure program, but The NFL Films production that I am curious about is “Lost Treasures of NFL Films”.

I’ve watched a couple of them and enjoyed them, and would like to watch all of the others, but there are four episodes that nobody has uploaded to YouTube, and I went to NFL Films’s website and there is no way to purchase a copy of it.

I considered getting an NFL+ subscription, but my question is if I would get access to this if I bought an NFL+ subscription?

No last time I checked there was nothing like that on NFL plus, just A Football Life episodes and a bunch of weird modern day series. The full games on there only go back to 2009. At one point they went back to 2010 and then 2009 randomly appeared so I got all excited like they would keep uploading full seasons going back. But they never uploaded any other past seasons after that. I think so few people watch any of the old games they pulled the plug on whatever effort there was in posting those(though I have been seeing more and more full games uploaded to Youtube by NFL now).

I thought the Timeline series would have been a great show to cover some topics in a depth that NFL Films never did before(loved the episode on Atlanta '91) but they killed that off quick. I have a few episodes of Lost Treasures, the Bum Phillips episode and the 2 Super Bowl episodes saved to my hard drive but that's all. There was an episode on the 60's and maybe another one on the early days of the merger that were fantastic.

Please go to the website oldtimessports.net ... you will find collectors with all types of various NFL Films, highlights and even collections of broadcast games. Many specialize in much older collections but some collectors have newer stuff up till now.

I have since subscribed and unsubscribed to NFL+. Yeah, it didn’t have what I was curious about.

As for Lost Treasures of NFL Films, I miscounted, there are five episodes I can’t find anywhere:

The Super Bowl VIII-XIII
Lost Sounds of the 70’s
Three Cheers for the Redskins
New Autumn Ritual
The Press Box

The second Super Bowl episode is one that I have not found.

In many ways due to the obscure historical nature of the series, it’s arguably the series that NFL Films is the least likely to do anything like now.

Not saying what they make now is bad (I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen of A Football Life in particular), but it tends to be more in the moment it’s filmed, and if it’s historical, it’s probably a more well known subject than most of the things in that series were.

Will definitely check that out, thank you for the suggestion.

I don’t know how likely I’d be able to get a trade, but we’ll see.

If you cant trade games, videos, blank discs, etc, Seahawk Fever, they will take gift cards or money orders to duplicate whatever they have and some of these collectors have alot of various NFL Films material.
