More footage of NBC's telecast of Super Bowl V surfaces?

I must say I'm surprised that there's been no media coverage about this discovery. Granted this is not comparable to the finding of Game 7 of the 1960 World Series in Bing Crosby's wine cellar, but still, I thought locating an almost complete broadcast of an early Super Bowl, the first one that was competitive from beginning to end, would elicit some response from sports media reporters and the NFL. Press coverage of discoveries like this could spur searches for other presumably lost footage.

That is because MLB was given the 1960 WS game 7 and then they released it for sale on DVD as well as aired it on MLB network. The NFL did none of the above.

Maybe the NFL will follow MLB's lead if it ever strikes a deal for the Super Bowl I telecast footage discovered years ago. With Super Bowl 50 on the horizon, I hope pressure is mounting on both sides to make a deal.

I think that the general impression that it was a sloppy game and one of the more boring Super Bowls probably hurts this. That and the fact that anything older than 10 years is now considered "ancient" makes this story of marginal interest to anyone that is not very knowledgeable about football history.

I'm watching SB 5 right now on YouTube. The total broadcast is 3:51. I'm in the second quarter with Dallas just having scored to make it 13-6. So far the recording has included the 30 minute pregame show, with Curt Gowdy and Joe Namath (Joe's analysis and prediction was spot on), and all commercials. It's taken from a Los Angeles TV station broadcast.

Two things I've noticed; a Dallas holding penalty was marked from the spot of the foul (This was discussed here quite some time ago and I didn't believe it to be true. I stand corrected.) and it doesn't appear that Baltimore was awarded a statistical first down on the Unitas-Hinton-Renfro-Mackey touchdown pass. Oh, and one other thing...Kyle Rote is a pretty terrible color guy.

Edit: As mentioned in previous posts, the video portion ends early in the fourth quarter.

I've just search the Duane Thomas fumble in the Super Bowl V transmition and I notice two things missing in the NFL Films footage: side judge Jack Fette (39) IMMEDIATILY marks Colts football just as Dave Manders appears with the ball (in the NFL Films segment it appears it had delayed a little) and tht the Colts immediatily start with a first down, without a pause, and the (quick) replay of the fans watching at home was insufficient, even for that time. Nowadays, with instant replay with coaches challenge an commercial breaks,it would've been delay many minutes. Also, the officials concur between them in a close play like that (and that also occurred in the 70s). It's worth noting that the referee at tht time didn't had the mic, so Norm Schachter (56) gives the penalty signals in both sides of the field.

I always liked the look of Dallas' blue jerseys and that's one reason why I like Super Bowl V. Earl Morrall's redemption is another. Those blue jerseys looked so nice with the Florida sun shining on them most of the game.

At AT&T (Cowboys) Stadium store, once I watched a Roger Staubach blue replica jersey, like those wore at this game, very beautiful, but his price was near 5 times more than a current jersey or one of the Triplets-era.
