2011 NY Giants discussion

Post by 74_75_78_79_ »

I'm sure-enough that everyone here can agree that this is the weakest SB-winner of all-time.

But a Title is a Title is a Title. After playing just enough, in the end, to get in the playoffs by winning that weak division, they go 4-0 in the post-season when it matters the absolute most against teams with a combined 51-13 record for all-the-marbles! 13-7 end-of-day, actually. Considering that Atlanta was a 'bleh' playoff team with the G-men actually at home for that one, and the Packers & Pats quite one-dimensional, that NFCCG-win at San Fran has to be their most impressive of the lot! Such a strong, balanced Forty Niners squad in Jim Harbaugh's first year with them, just as much a "should of" won the SB team as the following year ('11 vs '12 Forty Niners a good idea for a thread)!

Other than all just mentioned (again, a Title is a Title), is there anything else good or complimentary to say about this SB champ? Any regular-season style-points to give?

2011 was latest in a series of offenses (2011 was only passing) that scared opposing teams as opposed to scaring the fans as I had seen with few exceptions btw 1989 and 2004. Fulfilling the promise of Ray Perkins to “fill the air at the Meadowlands with footballs” just 25 yrs later. Ok, they gave it a good try in 1984/85 and then for a couple of yrs with Kerry Collins.

Had 48 sacks on D and JPP was a nightmare in 2011.

Manning and the team just took the division from Romo and the Cowboys that year. I know Romo was bad in big games but the guy still should have been on a modern HOF preliminary list.

It's not often I'd lay the blame for a loss on a single player but Kyle Williams two fumbles on punt returns almost certainly cost the 49ers a shot at that Super Bowl.
I remember watching that game with my jaw on the floor.
It was a devastating loss, emotionally.

Insufficient payback for that nightmare for Giants fans, the 2002 playoff game in Candlestick.

Valid point.
Still hurt though... still hurts, too.
