For me a good rivalry or interesting one doesn't necessarily have to be about both teams being good or playing in playoff or championship games. And that is something that is lost to time with some of the old rivalries over the years. But look at Redskins vs Cowboys, for me a much bigger overall rivalry than Dallas vs San Fran. Even though Dallas and San Fran have more championship meetings, the Cowboys/Redskins series goes infinitely deeper all the way back. Some of their games in the earlier 1960's when both teams were bad were battles, the broken rib/punctured lung Don Meredith game for example I believe took place one of those years when both teams were awful in the 1960's. Also loved how the scab Redskins team beat Dallas in 87, or when the winless Cowboys got their only win in 1989 vs Washington. Another little minor moment in the series I always got a kick out of; when Washington in 1995 as awful as they were swept the eventual Super Bowl Champ Cowboys in both games.

Rams/Saints in the NFC West save for like a few random years (1978-79, 1988-89, 2000-01)

Seattle vs. Arizona in the NFC West.
Chicago/St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona was an NFL/NFC East team.
Seattle was (except for their first season) an AFC team.

It is hard (for me) to realize the most recent re-alignment was in 2002 (it seems like only yesterday...) but neither of those teams have historical rivalries with the other teams in their current division much less each other.

As I said a million times already, I wish in 2002 that the Texans would have been added to the NFC East and nothing else.

Here's a birds-eye view...(MAN do I wish it would have been this way all along)...

AFC
East: Buffalo, Indianapolis, Miami, New England, NY Jets
Central: Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Pittsburgh
West: Denver, Oakland, Kansas City, San Diego, Seattle
NFC
East: Arizona, Dallas, Houston, NY Giants, Philadelphia, Washington
Central: Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, Minnesota, Tampa Bay
West: Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans, St. Louis, San Francisco

Had this actually took place, I would imagine Cardinals/Texans being the least intriguing division rivalry of all-time. Beneath ALL others.
