1962-In Week 7 the Cleveland Browns at Pitt Stadium man handled the Steelers 41 to 14. After that debacle Pittsburgh won three in a row. At Forbes Field, the Steelers got a touchdown and a field goal in the last minute to defeat the Minnesota Vikings 39 to 31; then came 17 points in the fourth quarter at St. Louis for a 26 to 17 triumph; ditto in the fourth quarter at Forbes Field to defeat the Washington Redskins 23 to 21. The Steelers record now was 6-4.
1962-In Week 11 at Cleveland the Browns buried the Steelers again 35 to 14. After that, Pittsburgh won their final three games. At Forbes Field vs the Cardinals, Willie Daniel returned an interception 59 yards for a touchdown; Tom Tracy in a return to prior days carried seven times for 73 yards; and Lou Michaels kicked four field goals. Final Steelers 19 St Louis 7. At Franklin Field, Lou Michaels kicked three field goals in the fourth quarter for a 26 to 17 victory. Finally in DC, the Steelers held off the Washington Redskins 27 to 24. The final record was 9-5, good for a trip to the Runner-Up Bowl in Miami to play the Detroit Lions.
So Pittsburgh started to play like a winner after a home loss to Cleveland. After that game the Browns game them their only loss in seven games
1963-Thanks to two missed extra points, the Steelers played to a 21 all tie at Franklin Field. After that Pittsburgh defeated at home both the New York Giants and the St Louis Cardinals. Going back to Week 11 of 1962, at Cleveland the Browns defeated the Steelers 35 to 14 snapping a three game winning streak. Now one year later, the Browns again snapped an undefeated streak of six games, five wins and a tie, at Cleveland 35 to 23.
After eight weeks the Steelers record was 4-3-1. For Week Nine at Pitt Stadium Pittsburgh had a thrilling 9 to 7 victory at home against the Cleveland Browns. That game was the first in a five week span that the Steelers had a 3-0-2 record.
Week 10 The Steelers defeated the Washington Redskins at DC 34 to 28.
Week 11-The Steelers tied the Chicago Bears at 17 at Forbes Field.
Week 12-The Steelers tied the Philadelphia at 20 at Forbes Field.
Week 13-The Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys at the Cotton Bowl 24 to 19.
Week 14-At Yankee Stadium, Pittsburgh lost the Eastern Conference Championship to the New York Giants 33 to 17.
