It's semi-serious, i.e. I know it won't happen but it'd be nice to never have to watch low-effort 4th quarter football again. Not sure how you could argue *against* the idea that winning-team 4th-quarter football is easily the worst product on the field any given Sunday?

Probably because football is a game and not a Marvel movie. A stirring climax isn't built in, nor should it be. If one team has the game in hand in the fourth quarter, they've earned the right to put it in cruise control: empty the bench, give the backup QB some snaps, etc. I don't need an exciting finish to be manufactured once the competitive portion of a game is over.

Well said. There is already far too much manufactured drama in the NFL today, has been for many years.

I love the idea of the Elam Ending....for basketball.

Basketball has evolved/strayed so far from what it once was (yes, I'm old) that why not go total freak show? At least for their stupid in-season tournament. Or preseason games and whatever Frankenstein All-Star game they gin up to mask the fact that individual basketball is already played the other 2,000+ games of the year?

Football, nah. Arena Football? Sure. (Though the latest league may fold before you can even think about it, not that they potentially haven't thought about it.)
