Do the Chiefs deserve to be considered a dynasty
Do the Chiefs deserve to be considered a dynasty
While they have been to multiple Super Bowls this is now the second Super Bowl that they have been blown out in. And this one was probably even more a throttling than the Tampa game was. In my opinion dynasties don't get blown out in championship games and it has now happened to the Chiefs twice. While the Pats lost Super Bowls as well they never got thumped in any of their Super Bowls. I believe all the games they lost came down to the wire. And the Chiefs are playing in an era where games are supposed to be close.
What does this loss do to the Chiefs historically? We will have to see how much longer they last but with Kelce and Chris Jones career winding down I am guessing they are going to fall a few notches soon.

I just mentioned on another thread that they still are a Dynasty, merely or not. Appearing in two extra SBs and getting blown-out is better than not appearing in either of them. And look at all the extra games they've played in this since-'18 run!
The Lakers get swept in the NBA Finals in both '83 and also '89. I think everyone sees 'Showtime' as a...Dynasty.

Let me think...9 straight division titles....played in 5 of the last 6 SB....won 3 of them...yeah, I'm kinda thinking they is.
And I don't think they're through, though I can see SD muscling 'em aside next year to end their bid for 10 straight div titles.

Both the Browns and Lions got blown out by each other in the 1950s. They're considered dynasty material by many.
Three SB wins in six seasons, with two other appearances and one other appearance in the conference championship is, to me, a dynasty. Especially in today's game. I also count the Bills and Broncos as AFC dynasties, even though they didn't win Super Bowls.
Everybody's talking like KC's done because they got blown out. It's not like they're going to be 6-11 next year. Look at what happened after they got blown out by Tampa. This doesn't mean they aren't going to win another in the next few years. (and no, I"m not a KC fan.)

The Chiefs play edges, it's why I said they would win a close game. This was not a close game obviously.
Once the Chiefs couldn't pass protect it was obvious which way the game was going to go. But that level of defense is hard to sustain, it was even before free agency. Usually there is a fallback. The 1974 Steelers would be one, won three more rings but never the same level of defense. It just takes one player to get dinged up or lazy or something. I think offense is a little easier to sustain than some defensive edge that other teams don't have. I'm thinking Seattle-Denver. The Broncos came back and won even with Peyton having a career ending decline. Seahawks came back, lost, and were done.

If you win three Super Bowls in a six season stretch with a similar core (in particular if coach and quarterback stay intact), then I would say you are a “dynasty”.

Agreed. In fact, that has always been my general criteria for any sport: 3 championships in a 5- or 6-year span with a core group. And as pointed out, it's so much harder today to make it to the ultimate game 5 out of 6 years. I'm no KC fan but you have to acknowledge what they've accomplished. And who's to say that they're done? Hard to believe Mahomes is only 29 and has already been the MVP of 3 Super Bowls.SeahawkFever wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 3:55 am If you win three Super Bowls in a six season stretch with a similar core (in particular if coach and quarterback stay intact), then I would say you are a “dynasty”.

I think we're all just glad to see another team win ... the narrative of Mahomes trying to catch Brady in championships, was asinine because its a team game and the Patriots dynasty was unique on its own, at a different time. The Chiefs have been favored to win it all since 2018. To go to five out six SB games is an amazing accomplishment, but injuries and free agency impact every season. The Bills and Ravens need to take the next step like the Eagles but a new team can emerge at anytime.

It’s most definitely a team game, but sometimes the media forgets this, and they reductively attribute all the fortunes or misfortunes of a team to the quarterback because it’s the most important individual position in general. Perhaps because they think it would make a compelling narrative.Brian wolf wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 11:22 am I think we're all just glad to see another team win ... the narrative of Mahomes trying to catch Brady in championships, was asinine because its a team game and the Patriots dynasty was unique on its own, at a different time. Re: Do the Chiefs deserve to be considered a dynasty
Considering the Chiefs' losses in two Super Bowls raises the question regarding the team as a dynasty, I have a question: Would you prefer to see your team 1) Win the AFC or NFC championship and then lose the Super Bowl or 2) Not win the conference championship and suffer a Super Bowl loss?
