Super Bowl LIX facts

Post by Crazy Packers Fan »

Chiefs: 7th Super Bowl appearance (4-2)
Eagles: 5th Super Bowl appearance (1-3)
Chiefs-Eagles second Super Bowl rematch on the same TV network (FOX) - Bills-Cowboys were back-to-back on NBC
Chiefs-Eagles joins Steelers-Cowboys, Redskins-Dolphins, 49ers-Bengals, Bills-Cowboys, Patriots-Giants, Patriots-Eagles, 49ers-Chiefs as Super Bowl rematches (am I missing any?)
Chiefs first team to reach Super Bowl coming off two straight Super Bowl wins; second team to reach Super Bowl coming off two straight NFL Championships (Packers 1965-1967)
Chiefs join Dolphins (3), Bills (4), and Patriots (3) as teams to reach three or more consecutive Super Bowls

Feel free to add others.

I think Raiders/Vikings, 49ers/Broncos, 2nd Cowboys/Bills probably didn't have a lot of fans.

Raiders-Vikings was the first Super Bowl to average over 60 million viewers.

Since then the only Super Bowls to average under 74 million viewers have been the Raiders-Eagles and 49ers-Broncos.

Cowboys-Dolphins was the first Super Bowl to break a 40.0 rating.

Since then the only Super Bowls to be under 40.0 on the primary broadcast have been 49ers-Broncos, Buccaneers-Chiefs and Rams-Bengals.

49ers-Broncos being on both those lists arguably makes it the least-popular Super Bowl.

Viewership for all SB rematches (in millions):

Cowboys-Steelers, 1979: 74.7
Bengals-49ers, 1989: 81.6
Bills-Cowboys, 1994: 90.0
Steelers-Cowboys, 1996: 94.1
Patriots-Giants, 2012: 111.4
Rams-Patriots, 2019: 98.5
49ers-Chiefs, 2024: 120.3

See where this is going? A few grumbling spoilsports aren't going to keep this game from approaching if not passing previous viewership records.

I think there are fans in some cities that are probably not going to watch. Buffalo/Baltimore probably aren't going to bother.

Chiefs fatigue is at an all time high and we are all sick and tired of basically Brady or Mahomes every damn SB save for 1 outlier

On the post game last night Nate Burleson charged us all to get over it with the Chiefs fatigue because we're "witnessing greatness".

I like Nate, but I had a similar reaction when he said that.

Obligatory mention that he played HSFB in The Great State of Washington. I missed playing against him by two years -- played against his HS in the state playoffs two years after he graduated.

I, personally, in this far-from-the-"old days" era in the NFL am excited about this, here, Chiefs/Eagles Super Bowl (rematch) to be! I actually wanted it going into this 'final four'!

The nasty brute-force squad against the two-time-defending-Champs who, now, decide (seemingly on purpose) to win in un-dominating fashion just for the "fun" of it. Setting the controls..."Okay, today we'll beat this bad team by just 3 points, then next week we'll beat this contender by just 1. Steelers are pissed, they're trying to win their division and just lost their last two. Let's go in there on Christmas Day and win a lopsided one this time. Beat Texans at home in the divisional by less then 10 but put up 32 against McDermott's defense to punch our ticket to New Orleans! Why not?"

That's how it seems, at least. In-control all year long. Putting ego aside and winning practically all their games close - just for the fun of it!

Some of my coworkers are also talking the 'fixed' stuff lately. They all disregard KC's run this year. And I keep telling them, "The moment you think it's fixed, you stop following (caring), plain and simple." Well, I'm still following.

You can't depend on close 4th down calls in your favor in order to finally get over the hump against this current Dynasty in KC. Everything that Colin Herd said today about the Bills coming up just short, if any of you watched his show today, I fully agree with! Josh should simply make the 3rd down in the first place! He even mentioned Chuck Knox, as I did in a previous thread, when talking of McDermott...

https://profootballresearchers.com/foru ... =mcdermott

Perhaps (perhaps not) Sean has now gotten himself ahead of John Robinson with this, now, other CCG-berth to his credit. But despite he being a defensive mind (as Colin said, reminding us of the 30 pts given up), he simply needs to do something further to finally get past KC. Just like SF losing those recent close SBs to them, it's not "fixed". It's simply a case of..."so close, so close and yet so far." And, FWIW, at least it HAS been "close" for these teams whereas my own Steelers never were near "solving" Brady & Hoodie's Pats in any post-season match!

Will the Eagles be yet another "victim" of this? I'll sure be rooting for them as I did two years ago. But I'm afraid it will be the case. Chiefs had their rematch against San Fran last year four years later. A bit of difference, main example being a different QB (Purdy instead of JImmy G) along with CMC being onboard! Well, despite just two years later in this case, the Eagles got...Saquon Barkley! Philly such a more forcecful/dominating team, they'll be out for revenge, they'll charge hard from both sides of the ball! Saquon all but likely will put in another killer performance!

But KC will have such an advantage in both the all-too-important HC and QB departments! THAT, right there, can and most-likely will make just the difference! A real close game. I think it'll be even closer than two years back, but this one-meaningful-loss version of the '72 Dolphins will squeak it out by a less-than-TD margin. I won't be surprised if it goes into OT. And if Eagles score first, outrageously confident I'd be of KC still pulling it out.

I hope I'm wrong, and just maybe I will. We'll see.

If Eagles win, a Lombardi now to his credit (along with another CC), you will not be able to disregard Sirianni! I'm still not going to know WHY he's a champion HC (many call him half fan, half coach - NOT a compliment), but he WILL be one and cannot be ignored! Not "just" a 'CEO'. right?

And if Eagles win, and Saquon is the SBMVP, does that make him not only "one of" the best but THE best (Numero Uno) Philadelphia sports icon EVER??

An Eagles win will also mean THIS...they beat Lombardi's Pack, beat Brady/Hoodie, and beat...Mahomes/Reid! Not bad.
