Though it didnt seem like much at the time, the Giants come-from-behind win against Dallas in Texas Stadium in 2011, might have been Eli Manning's best regular season game. A shootout and 37-34 victory, had the Giants lost, its doubtful they would have won the division. Instead, they sweep the Cowboys in the final regular game, winning the division at 9-7 before upsetting the Packers in Lambeau Field, and winning it all.

Another great win was Vikings over Browns in 1980, with Rashad catching a Hail Mary from Kramer. They won the division after being down 9-23 with six minutes to play. Probably the last great win for the Vikings at Metropolitan Stadium.

It was before my time but I would've loved to have seen "The Thanksgiving Day Massacre" in which the Lions upset the otherwise perfect Packers in 1962.
Games that I remember seeing would include:
The incredible victory by the Dolphins over the (also) otherwise undefeated Bears on 12/2/85
The 49ers double-comeback victory over the Rams on 12/11/89... most people will remember it for the two John Taylor TDs from greater than 90 yards but to me equally memorable are the blocks thrown by Jerry Rice on those touchdowns. To me this game shows why Rice was one of the greatest all-time football players I've ever seen (and not just a pass catcher).
And yes, that Monday Night Football game that Crazy Packers Fan mentioned in which the Niners beat the Giants 7-3 in 1990.
You could feel the bad blood between those two teams oozing through the TV set.

That's the game where Romo missed a wide open Miles Austin on 3rd down with about 2:30 left in the game, leaving the door open for the Giants' season saving comeback win.Brian wolf wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 7:24 pm Though it didnt seem like much at the time, the Giants come-from-behind win against Dallas in Texas Stadium in 2011, might have been Eli Manning's best regular season game. If they lost that game, that could have had major repurcussions for the future of the Giants. Besides what you said (not winning the division, which would have cost them a playoff berth), it would have put Eli and Coughlin on the hot seat, and they probably would have been gone after the Giants collapsed again in 2012 (maybe the newly fired Andy Reid takes over for Tom, but who knows?).
Also, if the Giants aren't World Champs, Tebow may not go to NY. The Jets got him so they could get attention after the Giants' SB win. If that doesn't happen, they don't make that trade.

I am not sure about the hot seat 7D, since Manning and Coughlin did win a championship but fans would have wondered if they would be better for 2012, which would be their last winning season till 2016? With only one championship--though we dont know about later seasons--Eli Manning's chances at the HOF would be greatly reduced.
I still never understood what the hell the Jets were doing with Tebow? Maybe its just me, but it seemed the NFL was uncomfortable with his religious platform, and were happy that the Jets didnt utilize him more as a QB. Yes, the guy wasnt the best thrower and had bad accuracy but was the type of athlete who never quit and could run as well as Josh Allen. I remember nobody wanting to tackle this guy and if the Jets didnt believe in him enough to play QB, at least develop him more as a tight end or versatile weapon like Taysom Hill with the Saints ...

I saw that game on TV. I was the sports editor of a small paper in Ohio at the time and I visited my family in Green Bay for Thanksgiving week. The Sunday before Thanksgiving, i sat in the press box with my dad and Lee Remmel for a game against the Colts. They were calling the Packer plays pretty consistently and so were the Colts until Tom Moore scored the winning TD on a sucker play that totally fooled everybody.JuggernautJ wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 9:10 pm It was before my time but I would've loved to have seen "The Thanksgiving Day Massacre" in which the Lions upset the otherwise perfect Packers in 1962.
The Thanksgiving Day game was so bad that it actually became laughable. There was a TV guy in Green Bay who did a Sunday evening show in which he interviewed a Packer player about the game. His guest that evening was Bill Quinlan and they were both very obviously drunk. The show began with Sampson saying, "Well, Bill, I guess the Packers won't be undefeated after all." Quinlan responded, "No, Al, it looks like we won't be undefeated this season" and they basically spent the rest of the show sobbing together.

In Detroit, at least among old-timers like me, that 1962 Thanksgiving Day game is generally ranked as the greatest game in Lions history. Maybe it wasn't the greatest: the 1957 playoff @ SF and the 1953 and 1957 title game victories over the Brown also were great days for Detroit fans and actually resulted in championships. But that Turkey Day beatdown of St. Vince's unbeaten Packers in front of a national audience is the most memorable and perhaps the most satisfying, given the Lions' 9-7 loss in GB a few weeks earlier and the build-up in the press as the Packers being the greatest team ever. The Lions had smoke pouring out of their ears that afternoon.
But a Super Bowl win would blow all those out of the water.

The obvious answer is 2018 Rams-Chiefs on MNF. That game had everything you could ask for. Like 7 lead changes, and the best defensive performance ever in a shootout (Rams). Only overtime would've made it better.
