15-win teams

Post by Crazy Packers Fan »

With KC joining the 15-win club, I figured I'd go back and see the playoff results of other teams to win 15 games in a regular season, at least in the 16-game era (in the 1920s, teams could schedule different amounts of games).

1984: San Francisco 49ers (15-1) - Super Bowl XIX champions

1985: Chicago Bears (15-1) - Super Bowl XX champions

1998: Minnesota Vikings (15-1) - lost NFC Championship Game

2004: Pittsburgh Steelers (15-1) - lost AFC Championship Game

2007: New England Patriots (16-0) - lost Super Bowl XLII

2011: Green Bay Packers (15-1) - lost in NFC Divisional Playoff

Any teams that I'm forgetting?

2015 Panthers ... lost in the SB to Denver

Chiefs will probably have 16 wins in a 17 game season, unless the Chargers upset them. Will many starters, sit?

Here’s a previous thread…

I may have been too hard on my ’04 Steelers placing them beneath the ’11 Pack the QB gap, Aaron/rookie Big Ben, notwithstanding. Barely, with a capital B, beating Herm’s Jets at home notwithstanding as well.

Quite a collection of 15-1 teams to look over, compare to each other, but the first chronological two, the only two here to win-it-all, are the clear top-2!

If the Chiefs three-peat in February, then you put them in 4th beneath da Bears, Forty Niners, and Patriots. If they go out in their first game, then place they and the Packers together.

Washington's last World Championship in '91 should be honorably invited in this given they were 14-1 going into a meaningless finale. Same can be said for the '09 Colts. I guess I would place Caldwell's bunch above Minny if only because they at least made it to the SB; but they likely were better anyway. Now Washington? I'll put them in 3rd above the Pats! I think that covers all teams that were 14-1 going into a meaningless finale. Fill me in if I'm wrong.
