i am taking this information from the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. John "Kayo" Dottley was the NFL Rookie of the Year in 1951, then was a Pro Bowl selection in 1952 and 1953 before calling it quits.
Anyone know anything about him?
Thank you.

Re: John Dottley
He retired, he said, because of injuries he sustained in a car accident in 1954. His own car somehow pinned his legs and was in the hospital for a month. He also had already hurt a knee early on with Bears.Halas Hall wrote: ↑Tue Dec 24, 2024 12:05 pm i am taking this information from the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Dottley was in the Pro Bowl just once, after the 1951 season -- at least according to pro-football-reference, which should be pretty reliable on something like that. Also, I don't believe there was any recognized rookie of the year award as far back as 1951. Of course, some newspaper could have picked one, like the Chicago Tribune or the Detroit Free Press or something.
Just looking at his record, it appears that he must've hurt a knee or had some similar kind of injury about halfway through his second season, then struggled after he came back in 1953. It's easy to see how another injury suffered in a car accident could've knocked him out of action for good.
