In my book those top of the line special teams players are Hall of Very Good at minimum.JeffreyMiller wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 8:44 pmI agree! Re: 2024 Hall of Very Good Election Results
I have a question, when is someone eligible for the HoVG? I thought Tasker was still eligible for the PFHoF, so I didn't nominate him. I sure voted for him, cause I think he deserves that and a whole lot more. But I'm confused as to eligibility rules.RRMarshall wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 6:42 pm Poor Steve Tasker! I wonder if Matthew Slater will get more HOF traction than Tasker did.

A player becomes eligible for the HoVG after they have been out of football for 25 years (so in their 26th year away).Crazy Packers Fan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 1:50 am I have a question, when is someone eligible for the HoVG? This coincides with the amount of time a player remains eligible to be a regular inductee into the Hall of Fame.
Once a player becomes eligible to be a senior candidate for the HoF they are able to be nominated for the HoVG.
Tasker last played in 1997 so his first year out of football would've been 1998.
So, unless my math fails me (and it often does) he became eligible in 2023.
It is a little less concrete with coaches...
Once they are out of football, unlikely to return (including deceased) and are unlikely to be nominated for the HoF they may be nominated for the HoVG.
A good example (of a bad nominee) might be someone like Bill Belichick.
It is very possible he might return to the NFL at some point (UNC notwithstanding) and he is certain to be in the HoF one day so he would not be considered for the HoVG.
