2024 Hall of Very Good Election Results

Getting the wrong idea. I just want more insight into how the process unfolds every year. Not because there's anything suspicious going on - I really just want to hear about it because I'm interested, plain and simple. It's useful for us in multiple ways: 1. weird cases like Herschel Walker would have an official explanation, 2. the committee giving a background, maybe even campaigning, for each of their selections can better inform me on who to vote for than just looking at PFR, and 3. we'd get a sense of what the committee likes and that would help us refine our future nominations.

Walker simply did not receive enough votes this time around. We've seen it happen with the HOF, so it shouldn't be cause for alarm. If people (not you ) chose to not vote for him this year for political reasons, they are missing the point of these types of honors.

The Process for HoVG Selection:
1. Any current member of the PFRA may submit 5 names in nomination for the HoVG.
This usually happens in April or May.

2. Each Committee member (9) then ranks their top 20 choices of those nominated from 1 to 20. Points are awarded in inverse order. The top 20 vote getters are submitted to the organization as finalists for the HoVG. This is done shortly after the nomination period is closed.

3. The body politic of the PFRA votes, usually by Halloween (October 31st).
They do so by selecting exactly 10 of the 20 finalists for enshrinement into the HoVG.

4. All of those who appear on 55% of ballots are elected, up to a maximum of 10. The minimum is seven so seven are elected even if fewer than seven receive 55% (the next closest vote getters).

I can only speak for myself but whom I vote for and in what order is largely determined by who is on the ballot.
We usually have over 100 nominees and each is given their due diligence by each member of the committee.

It can be difficult for humans to set aside their own preconceptions and prejudices but I think on the whole the committee acts with integrity and impartiality. It is our goal to present the voting body of the PFRA with the best candidates for the Hall of Very Good.

Lastly, "Finalists" from a/the previous year are not automatically put on this year's list of nominees.
If a finalist from a previous year is not a finalist in a future year it could well be that no one nominated said individual.
