Re: Modern cutdown: 50 names are in
I was asking for every name on the OP list who's on their first ballot. I've been thinking that Vinatieri would get in first ballot, as the all-time leading scorer, even though he was a compiler. Is there some reason he likely won't besides the hope of voters showing better judgment than they have in the past?

A really good group of candidates overall.
In particular it’s cool that Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas both are in the top 50. Earl in particular has a shot of making it someday making five all pro teams and an all decade team.
At least among the offensive linemen, the player that I think is getting overlooked and deserves more consideration than he’s getting is Tom Nalen. Five pro bowls, and blocked at center for a lot of successful offenses and running games.

For JB ... Manning, Vinny, Suggs, Kuechly, Thomas, Staley, Lynch and Yanda are first year eligibles ...
Re: Modern cutdown: 50 names are in
Jan Stenerud and Morten Andersen are the only pure placekickers in Canton, and they were both recognized quickly: Stenerud as a first-ballot HOFer, Andersen as a first-ballot semifinalist who reached the finals his second year. Vinatieri will join them in the Hall and could definitely be a first-ballot finalist. But I would be stunned to see him elected this year, even if they used the old system, simply because he's a kicker.JameisBrownston wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 2:04 pm I was asking for every name on the OP list who's on their first ballot. Jack, do you think Justin Tucker will get in first ballot?
Re: Modern cutdown: 50 names are in
It's so hard to predict without seeing the slate, and even harder considering that as great as Tucker has been, he's not even finished. He could have another ring and maybe a big postseason kick this year alone. Only 35... career numbers could continue to rise... and on the other hand, he's having a bad year right now, so he could decline. Just too hard to say, especially considering it's only happened once for a kicker.JameisBrownston wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 4:33 pm Jack, do you think Justin Tucker will get in first ballot?
But I think Tucker's a lock for induction, and that's good enough.

Could still be a clean-up year, though Kuechly, Thomas, Suggs, Yanda and Evans could really shake-up the voting? Could Gary Anderson take away votes from Vinatieri?
Re: Modern cutdown: 50 names are in
thats how im leaning too brian another clean up year would be for the best since we got some big names coming up in the next few yearsBrian wolf wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 5:03 pm Could still be a clean-up year, though Kuechly, Thomas, Suggs, Yanda and Evans could really shake-up the voting? It wouldnt surprise me Robert if the wide receivers get lost in the mix, at least till Fitz gets voted in. This system probably hurts the offensive line positions.

lets wait and see if this system helps or hurts o linemen before we rush to judgment same thing goes for wide receiversBrian wolf wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 7:27 pm It wouldnt surprise me Robert if the wide receivers get lost in the mix, at least till Fitz gets voted in.
