A true personality and considered one of the strongest players, pound-for-pound of his time. Should have had a better career but enticed by the Miami spotlight ...

RIP

Sad to hear about Mercury. He came to our high school to speak one time. I snuck out of class and ran down to the office to meet him, wearing a Dolphins shirt. He showed me his Super Bowl ring. Pretty cool moment for a 15-year old that I'll never forget.

Gene Cronin and Joe Schmidt, former roommates in Detroit, died within 6 days of each other. Had the pleasure of interviewing both, and they were both great guys. I'm not sure if there's anyone else left from the Lions' last title team from 67 years ago. Ken Russell, maybe?? I'll have to check.

RIP

Pete Rose

Charlie Hustle, and one of the most gifted hitters of baseballs the game has ever had. Hit catchers like a football player and dove head first into bases, when hardly anyone else did. My dad's favorite baseball player.

I do not believe this gentleman played professional football in the United States, but it was not for lack of trying. It seems like he tried out for many teams in different leagues multiple times during the 1960's. He must have really enjoyed playing but met with better success as an actor. Anyone who loved football that much deserves a mention here.

RIP John Amos
