I wonder if he signed "Charley" on things that said "Charley"
and "Charlie" on other things that had no name ...

Coach Troup did a great write-up of Conerly on PFJ ... He went by Charley ...
Re: Charlie or Charley Conerly?
Is it Gordy or Gordie (as per the "experts" at nfl.com and PFR) Soltau?

Re: Charlie or Charley Conerly?
Did this ever get settled?
Charlie and Charley -- signed both ways on autographs
but a Chuck and a Charles as well -- though limited number samples
Signed a letter to parents as "Chas" (maybe what he was growing up or what they called him. I am still Johnny to my family even though I am 60)
Has to be the only NFL guy with five examples of how he personally signed his name.
Football cards -- Charles and Chuck. If there is one with Charlie, have not found it.
Hall of Fame released Charlie this week but in the HOF media guides it's Charley.
At Mississippi seems to be "Charlie" in all their stuff. Pro football seems to lean "Charley"
Either is correct given the evidence ... but I lean Charley even though he most of the time signed Charlie when it was an index card. Most of the cards that says "Charley" are signed that way.
You can call me Ray. And you can Call he Jay but you doesn't have to call me Johnson.

Cool red jacket on the "Charles" Conerly card.
