Nice one! Though you said "first time in 8 years" instead of 9 which did throw me off. And I did think of those Rams at first, but failed to inspect their QBs because of that. I thought Ferragamo was on that team until a just saw the (42 years) QBs. Rutledge SUCH a nice touch!

I got one...

This team was HC'd by one who'd soon-enough win himself a World Championship as a HC. They'd start off at 4-2 though missing the playoffs. And in that very fourth win that would make them 4-2...it was against a team that would end up making the playoffs. In this game, a Pro Bowler/All Pro for this team would score two TDs and a future-HOFer for this team, who was "just" a Pro Bowler that season, would score a TD as well. They almost had the worst-ranked defense in the entire league.

But the following year they'd select a defensive player in the 1st Rd of the draft. He wouldn't even make the Pro Bowl though starting all his games as a rookie but the team would finish at almost 1st in defense and make the playoffs as a wild card though backing into them. But, at least, they win their first playoff game, and almost win the second one, and against a quite regular contender.

And then the year after that, though this defensive player would be named to the Pro Bowl along with All-Pro, the defense would still be ranked well but not as high as the year before. And they'd win the division this time although, still like the year prior, still backing in. But they'd still win their first playoff game as the year before just the same.

fun fact, Patrotini's passer rating the lowest for any QB with 140 or more attempts -- ever. And that goes back to calculating guys before it was official stat--- to guys in the 1930s that had 140 or more throws

His "rate +" was 26 ... there is no way to search for that on PFR but has to be lowest ever.

His play the last half of that season was simply awful.
