Re: "Name the Game" trivia
Correct. It always fascinated me that Eddie Bell wore #7. The game in question was by far his best career game. Don Maynard caught 9 for 148 in that game as well.74_75_78_79_ wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 8:54 pmColts 29, Jets 22 at Shea, Wk#5 in 1970. Re: "Name the Game" trivia
Though only a regular season game, that Colts win over the Jets in 1970 was one of the greatest revenge games in NFL history. McCafferty didnt even say anything to the team, he just showed them the SB III film beforehand. Namath not only suffered his first major injury which shelved him for the year but the Jets fell instantly out of contention for the division. To cap off the ugly season, George Sauer Jr retired as well. What a year for the Colts.

That fits it except according to the gamebook the last punt return wasn't on the last play.

Re: "Name the Game" trivia
How close to the last play was the punt return TD? The NFL Films recap said it was the last play, but perhaps that was a creative liberty. But you have the right game.Mark wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 7:45 pmhttps://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... 060was.htmBryan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 12:17 pm Next game up...

Just read the Phila Inquirer account of the game. Haymond's return came in the last minute. Time enough for a failed onside kick and, with 26 seconds left on the clock, a couple of dives into the line to preserve the 17-14 victory. No kneel downs back then.
