John, you must've been one of those guys who didn't pay attention in class. (I know because I was one.)

A related question: What player's only completion one season was a 98-yard touchdown pass? I believe only one guy qualifies, but maybe one of you will come up with somebody else.

PFR must only go back so far. Gaynell "Gus" Tinsley had a 97 yard touchdown reception in 1937, and a 98 yard touchdown reception in 1938.RichardBak wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 5:05 pm Took a quick look at PFR list of longest receptions in history. Mike Wallace and Terrell Owens also had two 90-yard+ receptions in their careers. Aside from them and JuJu and Taylor, nobody else has done it more than once.

Nah, my bad. Appears to be a few more than I originally thought I saw. I'm working with old eyeballsconace21 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 1:36 amPFR must only go back so far. Not bad for what one might have called a "possession receiver" back in the day. Steve Watson was excellent and quite underrated.Retro Rider wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 3:32 pm In 1981 Steve Watson recorded a 93 yard TD reception against the Chargers in Week 4 and a 95 yard TD reception against Detroit in Week 6. In Week 14 he tallied an 86 yarder versus Kansas City, a play that fell just 6 yards short of the endzone. At the time it was the longest non-scoring pass play in Broncos history.

Doug Russell fits that bill. If you're not thinking of him, I'm guessing it's likely someone else in the single wing era.

Yes! Russell is the one. I believe that 98-yarder set the record for longest TD pass, and then Frank Filchock completed a 99-yarder to somebody (Andy Farkas, maybe) in 1939.GameBeforeTheMoney wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 3:11 pm Doug Russell fits that bill.
