since both were used.
Skeet is used in LA Times...Old Rams media guides, old books and newspapers,
his autograph, old history book published in 1955 by Bob Oates, football card -- when they don't say Volney.

Like Spec/Speck both used, probably either one is right - Skeet or Skeets.

I used Skeets when I used his name in a book.
BTW---For anyone who might be wondering, Skeet and Skeets is shorthand for Mosquito, i.e. typically a little guy.
I knew a Skeeter when I was a kid. But pretty much everybody had a nickname in my neighborhood way back then: Bear, Cool Joe, Little Louie, Jimbo, Soo-Rod, etc. Whatever happened to all those guys?

Skeets is on NFL.com and in the encyclopedias and PFR. No way can that be considered wrong.
