Players who were what their team's nickname was
did a little post on Walt Garrison ...
He was a cowboys who played for Cowboys (college and pro)
But I guess giants have played for the NY Giants, depending on what counts as a 'giant'.
I guess a lot of Patriots can be patriotic but are they "patriots"?
Are people with Nordic roots "vikings"?
There are some, for sure, but Garrison was a real cowboy.

Jay Novacek was a cowboy who played for the Cowboys in college and in the NFL.

There have been a number of Texans who played for the Dallas Texans and Houston Texans.
Indians played for the Oorang Indians.

Some of the original Packers were (meat) packers.
Curly Lambeau worked at Indian Packing. He was listed as a meatpacking foreman in the 1920 census. Wally Ladrow, another original Packer, also worked there and so did some others, I believe.

Dick Butkus might've been an actual bear... or perhaps he was barely human...

I'm sure several Bills have played for the Bills.
Jim Brown played for the Browns, and probably more.
When Colt McCoy inevitably (hopefully) gets to the Colts... that'll be a special one.
Any saints play for the Saints? Anyone with "St." in their name?
Anyone who could be defined as a raider on the Raiders? Maybe someone who became an FBI or SWAT agent?

6 foot 10 Nick Wozniak played for the Giants.
Re: Players who were what their team's nickname was
49ers punter Jim McCann was born in 1949, as I imagine a few of his teammates were.
The actor Ed O'Neill worked in a steel mill before being signed as a free agent by the Steelers (he never played for them).
If any players of native descent played for Washington, I haven't been able to find them.
I imagine a number of San Diego/L.A. players use credit cards. And I'm sure many New England players over the years have been quite patriotic.
