And so the 1969 AFL Title had both teams from the Western Conference. Here were the following points:
-Oakland was 12-1-1 during the regular season; Kansas City was 11-3;
-As shown in the previous two entries, the Raiders had beaten the Chiefs twice during the season but the games were close;
-in the previous year’s Post Season game, Oakland destroyed the Chiefs 41 to 6;
The playoff format in 1969 had the second place team in the West play on the road the first place team in the East. The first place team the New York Jets at 10-4 lost to Kansas City 13 to 6. The second place team in the East played on the road the first place team in the West. The first place team the Oakland Raiders at 12-1-1 defeated the Houston Oilers, at 6-6-2, 56 to 7.
This set the stage for the 1969 Title Game.
